I'm back to school tomorrow. The first half of this year went pretty fast! The holidays even faster!! I'm a little bummed because I didn't get as much done as I wanted to. It doesn't feel like I've had a break at all really. I also don't know how I'm going to get up tomorrow. I really am a night owl
and love sleeping in. Not looking forward to a 6am wake-up call
tomorrow.
I took in over 100 new books today that I contacted these holidays. I love the look
and feel of a brand new, contacted book! They are just so smooth and
shiny. It makes me smile (crazy I know!).
Anyway, I finally got my new storage shelves put together - I didn't realize it came as a flat pack! A few hours later it was finally put together!
I haven't finished with all the labels yet and putting stuff on top. I spray painted my black rotating reader racks - one green (you can see some of it above) and one pink. They look so cute now!
These are my new labels. I've started re-labelling everything! I'm making blue = math, pink = literacy and yellow = other (like whiteboards which can be used for multiple subjects).
Because I had to move things around to fit the new shelves in, my group area is in an area that doesn't have a bulletin board. So I've moved my CAFE board onto this portable divider so we can still access it easily from the group table. It covers up some of the ugly concertina door, so that's good!
I also had to move my VOICES Writing Traits board and other things around. I'll have pictures of that tomorrow.

Oooooh, I LOVE your new set up! I love feeling organised! I feel like changing things around every now and then helps me decide what I do and do not like. I think that's good for me, being new-ish to teaching :)
ReplyDeleteVery jealous!

Coffee, Kids and Compulsive Lists
Thanks Shanyn, my kids loved it as well! I think that's it though, it's way to time consuming to move everything around every term!
DeleteHi Kylie,
ReplyDeleteI always end up moving things around because like you I end up introducing new furniture etc. I feel for you going back to school, I have one more week and have spent more time bludging than planning, oh well will get into this week. I love your new storage shelves, did you get them through school?
Tania
Mrs Poultney's Ponderings
Hi Tania, I bought the shelves myself - school has no money for new furniture! I figured I've bought so many manipulatives and things since I started teaching a few years ago, that I'll always need somewhere to store them so it was worth the investment. It was a bit pricey though.... Enjoy your last week of holidays, I bludged most of mine too!
DeleteI hear you!!! I return home from my trip in less than a week...then I have a good 2.5 weeks until we start school!! Where did the summer go?
ReplyDeleteI am a night owl too!! lol :)
Wow, that seems so soon! I though most people wouldn't be returning to school for at least a month to month and a half! Enjoy these last few weeks!
DeleteI am feeling your pain!!! Tomorrow - when did that happen???? I am sure we had 2 whole weeks off to catch up, plan and relax. Well, at least you are organised with your fantastic new storage shelves. I managed to get a bit done from my long list, started my blog (yeah!!!) and revamped a few charts. And managed to get my head around the next C2C units - bonus!!! Enjoy your first week back - an 11 week term ahead........
ReplyDeleteI've checked out your blog and become a follower! I can't wait to follow along with all you get up to! At least you looked at the planning... I just had a look at the overview mostly so I'll get into that this week! Hope you had a good day back today.
DeleteGood luck going back tomorrow! Your CAFE board looks great as does the rest of your classroom. It feels like time has flown by lately, doesn't it?

Learning Is Something to Treasure
It sure has Lisa, the 2 weeks just flew. Hopefully the next 11 weeks will go by just as fast because I sure am looking forward to our spring break in September!
DeleteYour Cafe board is amazing. Love the colors.I tend to move things around my Christmas break. Enjoy your first week back!
ReplyDeleteMichele
Thanks Miss Nelson!
DeleteI love your CAFE board! Is it something you made or did you purchase it from another store? Thanks!

Wolfelicious
Thanks April, me too! It holds heaps!
DeleteWow! I want some shelving like that! Looks great & no wasted paste. :-)
ReplyDeleteimgoingfirst@gmail.com
I meant to say... wasted space! lol
DeleteHaha, I thought so! It holds quite a bit, so I'm very pleased with it!
DeleteHi Kylie
ReplyDeleteGood luck today! I'm off to school this morning too.
I feel a bit out of it still and not as prepared as I normally am because I forced myself to take a break for once. I think I will pay for it later in the week.
I love your shelves but I don't envy you having to put them together!
I also like to move things around and start fresh each term.
I'm off to repaper my boards now.
Jane
Wow Jane, your keen 'repapering' in the morning before school! I'd make a mess and not get it complete before the kids came in!! Perhaps you work faster than me! Hope you have a good week back too.
DeleteWow! Your shelves look marvelous! I pray that your second term is awesome and amazing! I can't imagine...my new school year begins Aug. 8 for me, Aug 13 for the students... I really need to come visit Australia one July so I can experience a "down under" school! ;)

Thanks Melly, I hope the rest of your holidays are amazing as well! I've been thinking the same thing - that I shoud visit the U.S.!! Great minds think alike!
DeleteEverything looks great! I am in Texas, USA and our year doesn't start until the end of August. Where did you get your list for the VOICES cards? The cards you place under the headings. I am looking for a list to personalize. Thanks for sharing!

Simply 2nd Resources
Hi Becca, do you mean the CAFE board that I have a picture of in this post? If so, I have the cards listed for free in my TpT store but they are a PDF because of the clipart on them. If you mean the writing VOICES board that I've written about elsewhere, I have those cards for sale in my TpT store.
DeleteI was looking for the VOICES cards. I will look at your TPT store. Thanks! I just want a list to jumpstart me because I will be making my own!
DeleteYour room looks great; although school in July does not sound like fun! I guess during our winter (Texas, USA) you'll be having hot, sunny weather, though, right?!
ReplyDeleteSwersty’s Swap Shop
Thats right! We'll also be having out Summer break - can't wait!! :)
DeleteLove your new organization shelf! That looks great!
ReplyDeleteDiane
schoolhousetreasures
I LOVE it too! Wish I'd gotten it earlier!
DeleteI love the font you used for the CAFE strategy cards, what is the font name?
ReplyDeleteI believe it was Architect's Daughter.
DeleteCheers
Hi Kylie,
ReplyDeleteLike you I teach in a Queensland school and I also find storage in my room a real problem, thee never seems to be enough of it no matter how much I have. This year I am fortunate to have more storage space than normal, which is a blessing.
I am loving you storage shelf and would love to know where you purchased it from, please share as I would lie to purchase one the same.
Karen
Hi Karen, I found it at a few places but the cheapest price was from Kesco. It has worked a charm - it keeps materials readily available but neat!
